The mountain fox, the hedgehog, the great hornbill and the mnemonic butterfly are all at risk of extinction.

Now a project led by the WWF and the Nordens Ark foundation will try to save red-listed species.

“We are facing a serious crisis of our nature and many species are threatened in Sweden. The fact that many nature conservation efforts in Sweden have been paused or canceled is serious,” says Gustaf Lind, Secretary General of WWF, in a press release.

The project – the Dream Project as it is called – is financed by the Swedish Postal Code Lottery. WWF and Nordens Ark have jointly been awarded 21.5 million kroner.

The goal is to strengthen the populations and at the same time increase the public’s knowledge of the alarming situation in nature.

The project will run for four years and will focus on different animal groups from the arctic fox in the north to the leatherback beetle in the south.

“The dream project is based on concrete and well-founded action programs and takes place in close cooperation with county administrative boards and local organizations,” says Mats Höggren, CEO of Nordens Ark.
