Mauritius: justice seized after the third postponement of municipal elections

Mauritius justice seized after the third postponement of municipal elections

In Mauritius, the postponement of municipal elections to 2025 is the subject of several legal complaints. Citizens and political parties seized the Supreme Court this week to denounce an anti-democratic decision of power. Already postponed twice, the ballot was to take place on June 14, but the government announced the third postponement on May 19. The latter worries observers, including the anti-corruption NGO Transparency Mauritius, which regrets “an autocratic tendency” on the island.
