    Cycling up 10% in 2020

Cycle use increased by 10% over the whole of 2020, the increase reaching 27% outside the two confinement periods, according to the observatory of the association of communities Vélo & amp; Territories released Wednesday.

Carried out in conjunction with the Ministry of Ecological Transition, this first assessment – still provisional – is based on a national sample of 182 representative meters.

The increase in the number of passages is 12% over the year in urban areas, and 2% in rural areas, with a drop of 1% in suburban areas, according to Vélo & Territoires.

Containment periods excluded, “the new impetus given to cycling benefits all circles“, welcomes the association, with + 31% of passages in urban areas, + 14% in peri-urban areas and + 15% in rural areas.

The year 2020 will have been the year of the great boom in cycling in France“, she notes, explaining that” two factors particularly encouraged the French to use the bicycle: transport strikes and the health crisis “.
