Westdijk Bunschoten recovery now really completed Not proud of why

The headache file of the municipality of Bunschoten and the Vallei en Veluwe water board seems to be a thing of the past: the polluted Westdijk is clean and refurbished. After nearly six years of muddling through, the two-kilometre-long dike has been provided with new asphalt and clean sand that should protect the hinterland against the water for decades to come. “I am not proud of why we are here now, but I am proud of the final result,” says heemraad Patrick Gaynor of the Vallei en Veluwe water board.
