Some coins will change in a few weeks.

Change in your wallet! While bank cards are transformed over the months and historical designs disappear in favor of a new style, the means of cash payment will also experience some changes in the months to come. Although the French use their coins and notes less and less, they still continue to garnish their moroccos a little.

In a few weeks, new euro coins will enter circulation and will allow you to pay for your purchases, just like everyday coins. These will not be simple collector’s items but a new series with a classic value and produced in very large quantities.

Not all parts are affected. After changing the faces of the 1 and 2 euro coins in January 2022, it is now the faces of the 10, 20 and 50 centime coins which are modified by the Paris Mint. It is from this summer of 2024 that these coins will begin to fill French wallets.

On these new coins, exit the figure of the Sower, this woman with a Phrygian cap and a long dress sowing seeds, present on the back of these three values since the changeover to the euro in 2002. From now on, each will have a different character: the 10 centimes will have the face of Simone Veil affixed to the back, the 20 centimes that of Joséphine Baker and the 50 centimes that of Marie Curie.

Three women entered the Pantheon, chosen because “they are the symbol of a strong attachment to the values of the Republic and a source of daily inspiration for all”, justified Marc Schwartz, CEO of Monnaie de Paris, the organization that designs coins and notes.

The entire design does not change since it is planned that the French flag will still be represented by vertical and horizontal lines, that the mention RF (for French Republic) and that the 12 stars of the European flag will be retained.

These new parts will be produced for at least 15 years. However, it should be noted that the 10, 20 and 50 cent coins you have can always be used to pay and that you should not try to change them.
