Couples are allowed to marry naked on a nudist beach in Sardinia

In a beach in Sardinia it is now possible to get married naked, reports CNN. It is Luigi Tedeschi, the mayor of the city of San Vero Mili, who approved the nudist beach as a place where couples can now get married.

Benas beach has been a place for nudists for the past two years – and the idea for a wedding came after a German couple wrote to city authorities asking if they could get married there. The mayor, an outspoken anti-fascist, believes that politics in Europe is a reason why the beach should exist.

– I think we live in a sensitive time when it comes to people’s freedom, with nationalist movements in Europe, he says to CNN.

– People protest and then they are surrounded or intimidated by the police. So I think we have to do things to show that people are free. Most people want freedom, not a regime.

Want to attract tourists who don’t litter

The mayor wants to create a network of nudist beaches across Sardinia – and in this way attract tourists who he believes are more respectful than those who bathe in clothes, who, according to Tedeschi, tend to leave litter behind.

– Areas intended for naturists are always untouched.

According to the mayor, none of the 2,500 residents of the city have so far complained about the decision.
