The two Koreas engage in a show of force in

The Korean peninsula continues to see tension rise. After repeated artillery and missile fire in recent days, this Friday, November 4, it was the turn of an aerial demonstration. On both sides of the demarcation line, the armies flew fighter planes.

With our correspondent in Seoul, Nicholas Rocca

180 combat aircraft were deployed this Friday by Pyongyang, a very impressive figure. But these planes did not cross the line ” tactical action according to the South Korean military, a virtual line used by South Korea for its air defense. This clearly means that it would not be a violation of the inter-Korean agreements in force. But, as a symbol of Seoul’s desire to respond quickly to its neighbor’s actions in recent months, 80 planes took off from the southern side of the border, including stealth planes.

This demonstration of air force coincides with the military exercises conducted by South Korea and the United States since Monday which mobilize 240 combat aircraft. These exercises were extended in response to nearly 30 North Korean ballistic missile launches from Wednesday and Thursday. The decision was called “ immensely dangerous ” and ” irresponsible by Park Jong Chon, a very senior member of the North Korean regime.

This Friday, November 4, the United Nations Security Council will meet to discuss the worrying development of tensions in the peninsula. But it is difficult to imagine possible new sanctions against Pyongyang, or a general condemnation of these actions. Since the start of the war in Ukraine, Moscow and Beijing seem ready to oppose any new sanctions against North Korea.
