Following the general election in Bosnia and Herzegovina on October 2, the coalition agreement paving the way for a government to be formed at the state level was signed in the capital Sarajevo.

It was stated that a government would be formed in Bosnia and Herzegovina as soon as possible after the agreement signed between the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), the Union of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) and the “Eightfold” alliance consisting of Sarajevo-based opposition parties.

HDZ Bosnia and Herzegovina Chairman Dragan Covic stated that they will work for the formation of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and said, “We promised that it would be an important development when we received the status of a candidate country to the European Union (EU). We achieved this.” said.

SNSD leader and President of Republika Srpska (RS), one of the two entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, said that this is the first time an agreement has been reached in the country so quickly, “The government should be formed as soon as possible and deal with serious issues. For the first time, everyone agreed that we need to move forward. ” he said.

Making a statement on behalf of the “Eight” alliance, Social Democratic Party (SDP) Chairman Nermin Niksic noted that they have decided to embrace differences and work in cooperation.

Meanwhile, in the previous coalition talks, it was announced that an agreement had been reached that Borjana Kristo from HDZ would become the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Nermin Niksic would become the Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Following the last elections, the government in Bosnia and Herzegovina could be formed 14 months later. (AA)
