The dangerous turbulence

The murder of Emilie Meng

▸ One person died and at least 70 were injured when a passenger plane from London to Singapore ended up in severe turbulence. Witnesses have described things flying around and people being thrown around the cabin. Experts believe that this type of turbulence is unusual, but that clear air turbulence could be a possible explanation for the accident. The phenomenon has been described as “sinkholes in the air” and is expected to become more common with global warming. How bad can it get in the future? What tools are available to detect turbulence today? And do you need to be worried about flying? Guest: Hans Kjäll, aviation safety expert. Program manager and producer: Julia Fredriksson. Clips in the episode: BBC, NBC and TV4. Contact: [email protected]
