Young people from the neighborhood play music. Sitting on a blue gingham blanket, plastic tiara on her head, Mary concocted a menu ” so British “: ” we have traditional pork pies, cucumber sandwiches according to the queen’s recipe, sparkling rosé, snacks like stilton – an excellent English cheese. »

On the tablecloth next door, Anne has concocted a chicken dish, the one that had been served at the coronation of Elizabeth II. This Hong Kong woman wanted to take part in the celebration: “ It’s a once in a lifetime event. ! A platinum jubilee, I will know no other. It’s also an excuse to get together, we arrived from Hong Kong a short time ago and it’s important to immerse yourself in local customs. »

Gather with loved ones

The jubilee has of course reinforced the symbolism of the event, but for Vivien, one of the organizers, the “ BigLunch » goes beyond the queen: « It’s around the Queen, but it’s mostly about bringing the community together. The last four days have been a party for the queen. There, it is especially around the family, to meet in the park in the continuity of the other celebrations. »

Despite the gray weather, 85,000 picnics and street parties were to be held this weekend.
