The anger after Jimmie Åkesson’s speech: Reminiscent of Putin

– It is not a right to come to our country and build monuments to a foreign and imperialist ideology.

Jimmie Åkesson (SD) was critical of the “Islamization” that took place in Sweden during his speech at the party congress. Among other things, he highlighted that the law should be revised so that Säpo and the police can use covert means of coercion against religious congregations for intelligence and gathering evidence.

But the proposal to demolish mosques where “anti-democratic, anti-Swedish, homophobic or anti-Semitic propaganda or general misinformation about Swedish society” is spread is not relevant, says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) in a comment to TV4 Nyheterna.

“In Sweden, we have constitutionally protected freedom of religion where the core is that individuals may practice their religion individually and together with others. It applies equally to everyone – Christians, Muslims, Jews and other believers”.

“Should take place within the framework of the democratic rule of law”

He believes that unity between different groups will be fundamental, rather than “further polarisation”, to solve society’s problems.

“In Sweden, we do not demolish places of worship. As a society, we must fight back against violent extremism regardless of the basis – but it must take place within the framework of the democratic rule of law”.

The Social Democrats also got a big boot from Åkesson, who accused the party of not being able to choose between “continuing gold with Islamists and terrorists” or “putting the foot down”.

– I know that Magdalena Andersson will never be able to become prime minister again without the votes and support of the Islamists, said Jimmie Åkesson during his speech.

Lena Hallengren: Reminiscent of Putin

– It is hysterical and desperate to listen to Jimmie Åkesson. It is reminiscent of how Putin would legitimize his own policy, by claiming that Zelenskyi would be a Nazi. It is just as unrealistic and a lie on the same level, says Lena Hallengren, the Social Democrats’ group leader in the Riksdag.

That the Sweden Democrats paint the Social Democrats as a party completely dependent on Islamists is a “lie”, according to Hallengren – and accuses Jimmie Åkesson of, like Trump, trying to get away from taking responsibility for his own politics.

– Instead, the focus is shifted to social democracy in this way, which is so hair-raising. And I think it’s desperate, she says.
