Taxes must reimburse me: when will I be paid?

Taxes must reimburse me when will I be paid

If on your tax notice you see that you are entitled to a refund, this will be paid in the coming months.

Following your income tax return and the calculation of your tax, the tax authorities may subsequently inform you that you are entitled to a refund of a certain amount. In general, this scenario only arises in two situations. The first: your withholding taxes, made each month from your salary, were ultimately higher than the amount of your tax. This is the case, for example, when your income fell during the year, but you did not report it. Thus, the amount reimbursed will correspond to the “overpaid tax”which was taken at the source, indicates the site impots.gouv.fr.

Second case: some of your expenses entitle you to a “restitution of reductions or tax credits”, in particular donations to associations, rental investments, home childcare costs, school support, small gardening and DIY jobs, home meal preparation, etc. In this case, the amount reimbursed will relate to “to the balance of the tax reductions and credits to which you are entitled, taking into account the 60% advance which may have already been paid to you” at the beginning of the year. In January 2024 alone, 9 million households received an advance tax reduction of an average amount of 634 euros. A significant sum, just like the amount of certain reimbursements made by the tax authorities.

If you are concerned by a tax refund, please note that there is no action to take to obtain your due. Indeed, the tax administration is responsible for reimbursing taxpayers, either by bank transfer or by check sent to your home if the public treasury does not have the person’s bank details. “It’s usually between the end of July and the beginning of August” that this reimbursement phase is taking place, confirms the Ministry of the Economy and Finance, which will communicate the precise dates this summer.
