Sustainable Development Festival over a thousand events in six stages

(Finance) – The spotlight is back on Sustainable Development Festivalthe usual annual event organized by the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS), with the participation of businesses, institutions, civil society and all stakeholders who care about the issue of sustainability and the objectives of the UN 2030 Agenda. Looking to a better future to act with awareness in the present: this is the message that opens theeighth edition of the event, created with the media partnership of Rai and ANSA.

The Festival, presented today at the headquarters of Rai Radio in Romewill take place from 7 to 23 May, with a very rich program of over a thousand events, divided into six stages main: Ivrea, Turin, Bologna, Milan, Palermo and Rome. Among the new features of this edition, the podcast “The elephant in the room – 10 news stories from Africa’s future”realized by Rai Radio, ASviS and Amref Italiaconcerts with Heroes Festival and the countryside “Let’s look to the future” which invites awareness and action

The Festival will open in Ivrea on May 7thwith a reflection on the role of the private sector in the transition towards new sustainable models of production and consumption; the second stop in Turin, between May 9th and 11th, as part of the Book Fairwill focus on the relationship between culture, communication and sustainability; the third stop in Bologna, on 14 and 15 May, to talk about the future of cities and the role of companies in the transition in the urban context; on May 17th, in Milan, there will be a focus on territories as a driver of change; on May 21st, in Palermo, the focus will be on social issues. Between one stage and another numerous events will be organized at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome,real “home” of the Festival, with a focus on the individual Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. It will also be held in Rome the final event on May 23rdin the Group Hall of the Chamber of Deputies, where they will be results presented to the institutions e proposals gained during the Festival.

The scientific director of ASviS spoke at the presentation of the Festiva in Rome Enrico GiovanniniRai’s director for ESG sustainability Roberto Natalethe deputy director of Rai Radio Laura Rossetto Casel and the representatives of Festival partner. Between personality who will speak at the Festival this year include: Francesco Corvaro, Paola Crestani, Paolo Gentiloni, Mamadou Kouassi, Cathy La Torre, Maurizio Landini, Matteo Lepore, Giampiero Massolo, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Marina Ponti, Alessandra Prampolini, Ettore Prandini, Massimiliano Rosolino , Nathalie Tocci, Gelsomina Vigliotti, Matteo Zuppi.

“The over a thousand initiatives that animate the 2024 Festival of Sustainable Development demonstrate that interest in sustainability issues is increasingly rooted and transversal in every area of ​​life in the country, in the public and private sectors”, states the scientific director of ASviS Enrico Giovannini., adding “alongside civil society, educational and cultural institutions and central and local public administrations, the Festival involves ever more profoundly companies toofundamental protagonists of the transition towards economic, social and environmental sustainability”.

“On May 7th, in the opening event of the Festival held at former Olivetti workshops in Ivrea– Giovannini anticipated – we will present a Report on scenarios for Italy in 2030 and 2050 which contains, among other things, something previously unpublished analysis developed with Oxford Economics on the relationship between energy transition and macroeconomic variables, to highlight the choices to be made today in the field of industrial and investment policies, in order to ensure a prosperous future for Italy and avoid not only catastrophic scenarios, but also the worsening of socio-economic conditions of the country”.

“The commitment of the public service on sustainable development issues meets the tasks that the new Service Contract assigns to Raiwith articles dedicated to sustainability and the environmental and digital transition, but also to young people and inclusion”, explains the director of Rai For Sustainability-ESG Roberto Nataleadding “requirements to which the public service has already begun to respond with the recent approval of the first three-year Sustainability Plan, closely connected to the new Industrial Plan!.

“Rai has been a media partner of the Sustainable Development Festival since its first edition and since 2020 has hosted the opening press conference at the Rai Radio headquarters”, recalls the deputy director of Rai Radio Laura Rossetto Casel, speaking of a “convergence of objectives and views, thanks to the collaboration that has grown over time, enriching itself with contents and initiatives every year”. “Rai’s attention to sustainability – he continues – materializes with the numerous awareness campaignswith the actions of energy efficiency launched in the Rai Radio headquarters in via Asiago and with editorial initiatives, including ‘M’Illumino di meno’, created by the Caterpillar program twenty years ago and which in 2022 became ‘National Day of Energy Saving and Sustainable Lifestyles’ .

He also spoke at the Festival press conference Michelangelo SuigoDirector of External Relations, Communication and Sustainability of INWITthe main Italian tower operator e main partner of the event for the second consecutive year. “INWIT looks to the future, aware of the evolution of the role of our digital and shared infrastructures. – explained the manager – A role that perfectly reflects the our business, intrinsically sustainable, as it is capable of combining industrial, economic, social and environmental efficiency. Sharing infrastructures means less use of natural resources, less consumption of land, and therefore also less production of CO2″. “We have started environmental and territorial monitoring projects thanks to our towers – he continued – in collaboration with two of the main environmental associations, WWF and Legambiente. With WWF for fire monitoring while with Legambiente for monitoring air quality in the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, in the Maiella Park and in two other natural areas”.
