The purpose is that drones and anti-drone systems would protect NATO’s eastern border from provocations and smuggling, Lithuanian Interior Minister Agnė Bilotaitė says.

The NATO countries that are Russia’s border neighbors have agreed to establish a so-called drone wall to protect their borders, says Lithuania’s interior minister Agnė Bilotaitė news agency for BNS.

Bilotaitė told about it after meeting the interior ministers of Estonia, Latvia, Finland, Poland and Norway in Latvia.

– This is a completely new thing, a drone wall stretching from Norway to Poland. The goal is to use drones and other technology to protect our borders from unfriendly countries and prevent smuggling, Bilotaitė told BNS According to Lithuanian Broadcasting Corporation’s LRT.

A drone wall would mean that the border would be monitored by unmanned aircraft and anti-drone systems would stop potential drones from hostile countries.

Bilotaitė did not give a timetable for the implementation of the plan.
