Players suffer shortage of Poké Balls, believe developers secretly took them away

An event is currently running in Pokémon GO in which you have to catch a lot of Pokémon. At the same time, more and more players are noticing that they have fewer balls available. Fans now seem to be unanimous and angry: Niantic is to blame.

Why is the shortage so noticeable at the moment? The temporary study is currently underway in Pokémon GO: Master Ball as part of the “Adventures Abound” event. For this you have to catch, among other things, 1,000 Pokémon from 100 different species, which requires a lot of Poké Balls.

However, some players on Reddit are increasingly noticing that they have significantly fewer Poké Balls than was the case before the event. Sometimes even drastically less. The Pokémon GO Hub website speaks of up to 40% fewer balls from gifts from friends (via Pokémon GO Hub).

This is of course inconvenient at this event of all times and is an annoyance to many fans. They are now mad at Niantic because this change was not communicated and does not appear in any patch notes.

The community is angry with the developers: Fans on Reddit became aware of the changes on September 6th. A thread there asks whether the gifts you receive from friends were toned down at the start of the event (via Reddit).

Already there, some players noticed that they received significantly fewer Poké Balls, which made the event increasingly difficult. The thread creator even feels pressured to buy new Poké Balls for real money or Poké Coins.

Many other fans reported similar circumstances in the 112 comments and called on developer Niantic to communicate better. Some commenters even assume that Niantic would do exactly that on purpose so that fans would be more likely to buy balls from the shop.

Has the rate weakened even further? On September 13th, another Reddit thread spoke up. The creator wonders if the rate has been weakened even further. He opened 40 gifts and only received a total of 31 balls from them (via Reddit).

His post received 600 upvotes and 173 comments. One of them makes the claim that Niantic has actually further nerfed the drop rate of the balls. He received 336 upvotes for this, so a lot of approval.

Another player defended Niantic, saying: “They had to adjust the drop rate since we can open 40 gifts during the event [normal sind 20]. But somehow they managed to get less out of 40 than before.”

Other fans report that they are almost out of balls and are calling on the developers to do better. Pokémon GO has not yet officially commented on this or improved the drop rate again.

How is it for you? Do you have similar problems and too few balls? Or didn’t you notice any change? Feel free to write it to us in the comments here at MeinMMO.
