Örnsköldsvik municipality has made the decision to cancel its annual fireworks show on New Year’s Eve. The announcement from the main organizer comes after threats were received from people who are against fireworks.
But fireworks vendor Eric Barkman believes the decision will have the opposite effect — residents who don’t have a show to go to will buy their own fireworks instead, contributing to a more total explosion.
– Now it’s the other way around, people continue to buy from all retailers and use it both before and after the stroke of twelve, he says.
