– They will be filled quite soon. In mid-May, it will be fully occupied here as well, we also expect double occupancy, so there will be 136 places in total, says the director of the institution in Skänninge, Emil Ahlquist.
The two buildings have a total of 96 cells and when the Correctional Service talks about double occupancy, it means that two inmates share a cell.
A growing workforce
When the institution will now take in more clients, it will also be necessary to recruit more employees. Today, there are 230 jobs at the institution, and the Correctional Service expects to grow to 330.
– In parallel with the opening here, we are driving hard with recruitment, above all to cover up with substitutes over the summer, says Emil Ahlquist.
Moving into the new cells is estimated for March 1, and by then the institution in Skänninge will be one of the country’s largest in its class.
