Misjudged pregnancy at 16 weeks – child died

When the pregnant woman came into the gynecological emergency department at Skåne University Hospital in Malmö, she was given the go-ahead to have an abortion. The fetus was estimated to be eleven weeks old.

But as the abortion approached, the woman experienced acute pain and went back to the hospital. She then gave birth to a stillborn child who was 16 weeks older than the hospital had estimated.

The hospital has registered itself according to lex Maria. They have also reported the incident to the police, but the preliminary investigation has been closed.

According to an internal investigation, the workload was high when the woman entered the gynecological emergency room.
