Hockey-Sverige’s support for big SHL profile – forced to end career after shock message: “Please pray for us”

The former SHL profile Rhett Rakhshani is forced to end his career.
Now he is supported by the entire hockey world.

“Please pray for us,” he wrote on Instagram after the illness in the family.

Rhett Rakhshani has certainly left the SHL, but is a familiar name to say the least. Not least when he has almost played for half of all teams in the series. He joined HV71 in 2012, and after that has also played for Växjö Lakers, Linköping, Malmö Redhawks, Frölunda and Djurgården.

The big shock

When Djurgården left the SHL last spring, Rakhshani chose to leave Sweden for the first time in ten years, and the new club address became Grizzly’s Wolfsburg in the German league instead. There he has had a good start to the season, but now the shock news has arrived. There will be no more games for the American, neither in the Grizzlys nor with any other team.

Wolfsburg announced that Rakhshani is forced to end his career immediately, due to an illness in the family.

– We are all very upset and sad. The news of the illness came as a great shock to all of us. We fully understand Rhett’s decision to devote his love, time and effort solely to his family from now on,” Wolfsburg’s CEO said in a statement.

Rubbish

On Instagram, Rakhshani himself now tells about the shock. His wife, Shar, has suffered from bowel cancer that has spread to her lungs and lymph nodes. He writes that he “doesn’t want to believe it’s true”.

“It’s been an emotionally tough few weeks since we got the news, not only having to process our feelings but also making a plan. We’ve decided to go home to California to take this fight home, where Shar wants to be. Our family will do anything for Shar and she is the bravest person I know. Her hope and faith have been inspiring,” he writes.

In conclusion, Rakhshani urges his followers:

“Please pray for us”.

Since the announcement came, scores of Swedish hockey supporters have sent their strength greetings and support via social media. Regardless of which club you support, the love for the profile has flowed.
