The former traffic council says it wants to take over the post even if the party leaves the model with two mouthpieces, reports Aftonbladet.
Part of the Green Party’s problem and the reason why the party balances close to the four percent threshold is, according to Helldén, that it has drifted too far from the focus on climate and environmental issues.
“We have an ability to split ourselves up. Politics is a lot about concentrating and prioritizing,” he tells the newspaper.
Major divisions within the party have also arisen precisely around the mouthpiece model.
While parts of the MP see an opportunity to grow if the model with two mouthpieces is abandoned in favor of a party leader, others, like the other mouthpiece candidates, have made it clear that they will only run if the model remains.
David Helldén runs regardless of model, even if he then challenges Märta Stenevi as sole party leader.
“I advocate that there should be two mouthpieces,” says Daniel Helldén to Aftonbladet, but adds:
“Should it now be the case that the party chooses to change it, I will remain as a candidate”.
One of those who is running for spokesperson under the condition that the model with two spokespersons remains is Magnus P Wåhlin.
“Deciding that we should have a man as sole party leader would go against everything the party stands for,” he has previously stated to TT, with the addition:
“Then after a few years we might be able to have it”.
