Greenland is getting a little closer to Europe, at least in terms of time.

Parliament has voted through an amendment which means that the island will not switch back to winter time next autumn. This brings you one hour closer to Europe, and the time difference then becomes three hours to, for example, Denmark – as big a difference as to the east coast of North America.

Several politicians have expressed concern that the change could have public health consequences, as the new time zone fits less well with the rhythm of the day than the current one, and with the change research should be conducted on the health of Greenlanders.

American air bases do not need to change time zones, according to Greenland’s parliament and county council.
