The last sign of life from the victim came in October last year. Two months later, the remains were found in a freezer.

Now the Malmö district court sentences a 54-year-old man to five years in prison for grossly causing the death of another and gross breach of privacy.

The dismembered remains were found in the freezer of his apartment at the end of November last year. Then the man himself, together with his social workers, had sought out the police and told them. Then he claimed that the victim, with whom he socialized and used to take drugs, died due to an accident.

The man has thus denied murder, but admits that he caused the man’s death and he has also admitted to trespassing. The now convicted man has stated that he panicked and therefore dismembered his dead comrade. The remains were then put into the fridge and freezer.

According to the Malmö district court, there is no evidence that the man intended to kill the victim.

“On the other hand, the defendant’s action of holding a knife in his hand while under the influence of drugs when he pushed the plaintiff was very negligent and included a deliberate risk-taking of a serious nature. He is therefore sentenced for grossly causing the death of another,” says councilor Anna Tengberg in a press release.

At the same time, during the course of the preliminary investigation, material was found in the man’s mobile phone which, according to the prosecutor, showed that he had an interest in, among other things, murder and dismemberment.

A previous forensic psychiatric examination shows that the convict does not suffer from a serious mental disorder.
