We test drive the Lamborghini Urus S – a German

The new model has received the addition “S” in the designation and, according to the Italians, should be better at exactly everything. What the S version is gifted with is 16 additional horsepower, a sharper exterior and a beefier exhaust system. The differences are not enormous and the Urus S will be the new entry-level model in Lamborghini’s SUV portfolio.

The Lamborghini Urus S has a look that is extremely aggressive, something that generates a lot of attention. It is not exactly the most discreet option on the market.

It is not without reason, but Lamborghini is well aware of what their customer group looks like. The typical Lambo customer tends to be someone who likes brands like Gucci and likes to drive around town with the sport mode on.

On the inside, you are greeted by an interior that completely oozes Audi. The German brand has owned Lamborghini since 1998.

It’s clear when you see the infotainment system, the buttons and controls, and hear the warning sounds.

In the case of Lamborghini, of course, it is also a pecuniary issue, but it is a little sad to pay several million for a car and be met by an interior taken from a completely different brand.

Bentley is also part of the same group, but they have succeeded much better in differentiating the interior.

A snorting bull

In response to speech, Lamborghini says that they certainly put more effort into excelling the experience behind the wheel rather than the interior. Under the hood a 4-liter V8 that has been scared up to 666 horsepower.

It is the same piece that is found in cars such as the Audi RS Q8 and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. The Urus S can sprint to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds, which means it enters supercar territory.

The adaptive air suspension system ensures good comfort and the Urus S is extremely comfortable. At the same time, it manages to handle curvy roads with flying colours, despite its 2.2 tonnes.

The Lamborghini Urus doesn’t feel special enough

The biggest shortcoming of the Urus is that it doesn’t feel particularly special to drive. In normal driving, it feels like an ordinary luxury SUV, an area where, for example, the Aston Martin DBX succeeds better.

It is only when you loosen the car’s reins properly that the engine noise becomes loud enough and the good road holding makes itself known. However, it is likely something a Urus driver will never do.

If you are looking for something that feels more special, you should look over to an Aston Martin DBX or a Ferrari Purosangue.

If you instead want something that feels handmade and luxurious, you should look at the Bentley Bentayga.

If you want similar performance and technology, you should look towards an Audi RS Q8 or Porsche Cayenne Turbo.

But if you have your sights set on attention and design, the Lamborghini Urus is an excellent choice. It is also pleasant to drive, with adequate performance and a high level of comfort. However, the Urus doesn’t feel very Italian, but that’s for better or worse.
