A country is taking action against Twitch streamers who want to save taxes and go abroad

Gaming influencers save taxes by moving their residence abroad: German-speaking Twitch streamers have been drawn to Madeira for years. For Spanish-speaking streamers, their Madeira is the state of “Andorra”, but they will soon require a language test.

This is the situation:

  • Large Spanish-speaking streamers have been emigrating to Andorra for years, apparently for tax reasons
  • The most famous streamers include Rubius (the xQc of Spain) and TheGrefg, who became big through Fortnite
  • From 2026, Andorra will now require a language test
  • He is one of the well-known German emigrants: LetsHugo

Andorra will soon subject residents to a “language test”

What do the streamers have to do? As 3D Juegos reports, from 2026 Andorra will require all residents to take an A1 test in “Catalan”, the official language of Andorra. From 2029, residents will have to take an A2 test.

The language level “A1” corresponds to that of a beginner. It requires being able to understand and use everyday expressions and simple sentences. You have to be able to answer questions like “Where do you live?”

A2 then requires you to at least describe your own origins in simple words.

The test for A1 should take around 80 minutes, the one for A2 almost two hours. According to 3D Juegos, the tests are about the same level as one might expect from 11-year-olds.

Streamer complains: If he had known that, he would never have moved there

How do Stramer react? Rubius expressed himself positively about this change: He sees it as a challenge because otherwise she would never have learned Catalan.

Another streamer, Augstin51, is terribly upset about it. He says he emigrated to Andorra five years ago and was never forced to do anything. He could be “happy and free” here. From one day to the next the government will come and harass him. If you had told him 5 years ago that he had to learn Catalan, he would never have gone.

From a German perspective, the discussion inevitably makes you wonder what the German streamers on Maderia actually do with their Portuguese skills.
