Björn Hellkvist sick again – forced to take a break from Leksand

Björn Hellkvist, head coach of the SHL team Leksand, is forced to take sick leave again.
The 46-year-old suffers from Parkinson’s disease, something that caused him to interrupt his then coaching assignment in Rögle back in 2011.

The sick leave applies from Tuesday and “for an indefinite period”, writes Leksand in a press release.
– Björn has for some time struggled hard with his illness and has now reached a point where his well-being is most important, says Leksand’s general manager Thomas Johansson.

The duo takes over

After interrupting his job as Rögle coach in 2011, Hellkvist returned to hockey after a period of rehabilitation. He has since coached among others Malmö, Oskarshamn and Modo before taking over Leksand three years ago.

This summer, Hellkvist had an operation on his brain and he was on sick leave until the end of August. And now he is forced to pause his mission again.

Leksand has had a tough start to the season and is third from the end in the SHL. The team’s games this week will be led by the assistant coaches Mikael Karlberg and Charles “Challe” Berglund.
