“We’ve talked about it”

Stina Nilsson has decided to change sports again.
Now boyfriend Emil Nykvist opens up about the difficult decision.
– Of course we have talked about it back and forth, he tells NWT.

The ski season may be long over, but it still continues to make headlines. Last week the news broke Stina Nilsson down like a bomb in Swedish skiing.

Again, she chooses to change sports and leaves biathlon after four years of full-time commitment. But it has been four tough seasons for Stina, who has really had to fight to reach the top in her new sport.

In the end, the 30-year-old had enough and now chooses to put the rifle on the shelf and return to just skiing again. Nilsson will now compete in long races for the coming season.

Nykvist admits

Since then, many have had opinions about Stina Nilsson’s decision. Now the boyfriend breaks up Emil Nykvist the silence and tells what he thinks about his partner’s choice.
– She is eager to go long-distance running, so of course she will do it. It’s as she says herself, it’s a three-step career. She wants to cross-country, biathlon and long-distance running, he says in an interview with Nya Wermlands-Tidningen.
– Of course we talked about it back and forth about advantages and disadvantages. But she thought it was so much fun to go long-distance running, went two last winter, and then there wasn’t much to think about.

Nilsson has had to endure harsh criticism throughout his biathlon career, especially the last two seasons, but Nykvist doesn’t think that has influenced the decision.
– I don’t think she cares that much. She goes her own way and does what she wants, he says to the local newspaper.

Emil Nykvist is impressed by the girlfriend’s great courage to go her own way in all situations and dare to break free.
– She was the best in the world at cross-country skiing and had won everything that could be won. She changed because she wanted to and now she also changes because she wants to. It is brave and impressive to be able to go your own way and choose for yourself, not do something for the sake of someone else or money.
