Armand Duplanti’s almighty award after the great year of success – but was defeated by Lionel Messi(!)

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

For once, Armand Duplantis came second in a competition.
“Mondo” has been named the world’s second best male athlete in 2022.
The Swedish pole vaulter only had to see himself defeated by Lionel Messi.

It is not common for the superstar Armand “Mondo” Duplantis NOT winning a contest. But, believe it or not, it has actually happened now. The Swedish pole vaulter has had a successful year behind him with several world record jumps while dominating the sport as a whole, winning both EC and WC gold along the way

“Mondo’s” success

Now the journalist organization AIPS poll on who is the world’s best sportsperson has received a result, where 420 journalists from 113 different countries have had their say. And Duplanti’s total dominance has not exactly gone unnoticed.

Armand Duplantis received 9.87 percent of all votes, and with that the 23-year-old Swede claimed second place. However, “Mondo” had to see himself defeated by a certain Argentine in the form of Lionel Messi.

Messi superior

The Argentinian soccer star took home the vote in superior style, to say the least, where he received a whopping 25.45 percent of all votes. As you know, Lionel Messi and his Argentina won the World Cup earlier in the month of December – which was Messi’s first World Cup gold in his career and Argentina’s first title since 1986.

And the feeling is that Duplantis can probably accept coming second given Messi’s smash hit.

Even on the women’s side, it was a soccer player who won. Spanish Barcelona midfielder Alexia Putellas took home the award with 11.96 percent of the vote. Second was the swimmer Katie Ledecky.
