Arc Search: The new threat to Google

Arc Search The new threat to Google

The Browser Company’s first product, the “Arc” browser, has been out for over a year and early adopters are lifting it to the skies. With a radical new vision for the internet and many sought-after features, it has quickly become a popular alternative to other browsers such as Safari and Google Chrome. Now they have launched an app for mobile, “Arc Search” with AI functions as a selling point.

Heavy competitors

Arc Search is the latest attempt at a browser with AI capabilities. Released for mobile, it’s designed to be the fastest search experience out there. Perplexity AI and Microsoft Copilot offer a similar experience but, as The Verge explains, the latter two are only AI bots with search capabilities, and Arc Search is a more thoughtful product. Arc Search creates a new website for you every time you search for something.

Josh MillerCEO of The Browser Company, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the new product:

Creating new pages

When you want to search for something on Arc Search, you type it in the search box as usual, but now you get two choices. You can choose to search as usual and get Google’s results, exactly as we have been used to for the last 20 years, or you can press “Browse for me”. Arc Search then creates a new page for you with summaries, images and links, to give you an overall picture of what you searched for.

You can also dive deeper with more links to articles if you wish. The product is based on models from, among others, OpenAI. The product is not flawless. Right now, for example, it can only create pages in English and sometimes the source reference to the information is missing, but even so, this is a new and interesting way to search.

The company will create new internet

The Browser Company has shared its plan to create a “new internet” using AI and its desktop browser, but how exactly it will be done is not yet clear. Arc Search or a similar search engine that aggregates results from multiple websites poses a threat to Google’s advertising-based search model. This, because AI summaries do not require users not to go to the original sources and then not see any advertising.

In this video, the team behind Arc and Arc Search explain their new vision:
