RTV Utrecht also asked the province for a response to the NOC*NSF report. A spokesperson acknowledges that club sports are declining. “If it turns out that we as a province can also play a role in this, we will look at the best way to do this.”

The new coalition agreement states that the province of Utrecht supports the regional sports infrastructure. “We want sport to be accessible to everyone and that attention is paid to a safe sporting climate. We help municipalities with their associations by supporting them with knowledge and skills in the field of finance and volunteers.”

In addition, the spokesperson indicates that she especially wants to get children and young people to exercise more. “Not every child has sufficient opportunities for this, while exercise is important to stay physically and mentally healthy. As a province, we therefore also support the Youth and Culture Fund, so that children whose parents have a small grant can still participate in sports.”
