Six years ago, Anna Holmlund’s life changed forever.
Now she remembers back to that day and talks about the strong feelings.
“An accident that has unfortunately cost me a lot,” writes the 35-year-old on Instagram.

She was one of Sweden’s brightest skiing heroes and a world skier in ski cross. Anna Holmlund salvaged Olympic bronze, WC bronze and three SM gold during the fine career.

But then the terrible thing happened on December 19, 2016 when the 29-year-old crashed violently during a practice run in Innichen, Italy. The Swede sustained serious head injuries and hovered between life and death.

The Swedish people held their breath and sent their great support to Holmlund who was fighting for his life. She was sedated and put into an artificial coma for five months before she came back to life.

“Incredible role model”

Since then it has been a long journey back for Anna who really had to fight every day to return to a normal life again. Swedes have supported her and been inspired by her tough fight and over the years she has made great progress in her rehabilitation.

Today, she can mostly get around in everyday life without a wheelchair and her ability to speak has improved considerably. Six years after the horrific crash, Anna Holmlund speaks out on her social media channels and remembers that day with strong emotions.
“Today is 6 years ago, the nasty accident! An accident that has unfortunately cost me a lot. But I have also earned some. For example, thanks to the accident, I got to know these two fantastic people. Absolutely wonderful! They help me a lot. After all, there are some things I can’t do because of the accident, and then I have to have help. For example, I can’t drive a car! But but! A real crap day, it’s going to be good!”, writes the 35-year-old on Instagram, see the full post below.

Anna has posted a picture of herself with her personal trainers and close friends Zandra Fjälkeby-Berg and Anders Schröder. After the strong words, she is showered with love and words of praise from the Swedish people on Instagram, so many have been inspired by her journey and fighting spirit.
“You are a fighter and take it day by day and it will get better with time and you have many people around you who help you and also here,” writes one in the comment field.
“So Anna.. You are such a fighter… Remember that,” writes another.
“I’m fascinated by your forehead Anna! It is absolutely incredible what a journey you are on. You are an incredibly fine role model! You are the best!!” writes a third.
“6 years ago… Unbelievable. It felt like the whole of Sweden was holding its breath until we knew how it would go and for a long time you hardly dared to hope. It’s as cool as can be to follow you on the road to rehab,” writes a fourth on Instagram.
