World Cup hero William Poromaa’s unexpected revelation – the trick will make him even better: “It feels stupid”

He is Swedish skiing’s great hope.
Now William Poromaa reveals what he did this summer.
To be even better for the coming ski season.

The holiday season is over for the Swedish jump William Poromaa and the pre-season is in full swing to prepare as well as possible for the upcoming season this winter. Last season was crowned with a historic WC bronze for the Swede, who now wants to be even better.

Poromaa’s summer

It’s been six months since the 22-year-old took the very first senior medal of his career in Planica after sprinting away from his teammate Calle Halfvarsson on the five-mile race. Since then, Poromaa has mostly taken it easy and focused on a lot of other areas, namely skiing.

During the summer it has instead become golf, fishing and music.
– There was a bit of music at the end, sitting and DJing. Yes, I guess I just sit and mix a set that you can play for an hour and make it flow together and sound good. I try to find things that are easy to do, that are fun and that require you to move as little as possible. Then it has been a good hobby during the summer, says “Wille” in an interview with Sundsvalls Tidning.

The trick for winter

Otherwise, the trick for the summer training has been not to change anything. Last season’s WC bronze and fine results at the World Cup are clear proof that Poromaa is on the right track in its development.
– This year we really just want to build on that and try to get a routine in what we changed last year, says the national team star in the interview and explains further:
– Partly there were changes due to my moving to Sundsvall. But I may drive longer shifts than many others do. In traditional skiing, it has been most common to drive three hours in the morning and two in the afternoon, but I often drive four-five hours and rest in the afternoon. A bit like how the cyclists and many of the long-distance runners do. Our basic thesis has been to train hard and rest a lot.

William Poromaa and personal trainer Lars Ljung have chosen to continue with the same training plan, as they changed a lot last summer. It will now make the 22-year-old even better on the ski tracks next season.
– Exactly. Me and Lars have been driving together for a few years now and things are going in the right direction. Then it feels stupid to change too much. We believe in what we do, says the WC hero.
