With several months of delay, Samsung finally formalizes the Fan Edition version of its Galaxy S21. This new telephone offers unparalleled equipment, worthy of the most upscale models, for a reduced price.
He was particularly expected of fans of the brand. The Galaxy S21 FE (for Fan Edition) has finally been announced on the sidelines of CES 2021 in Las Vegas and put on sale in the wake by Samsung. Like its predecessor the Galaxy S20 FE, this smartphone should have been launched in September, but the shortage of electronic components has delayed its launch. This fairly recent FE range has enjoyed unprecedented success since it largely incorporates the equipment of the Galaxy S launched at the start of the year while taking advantage of a lower price. Or the possibility for the informed consumer to acquire a high-end Samsung smartphone for 2 to 300 euros less. The FE’s DNA is therefore not to be found in innovation but rather in good value for money.
Galaxy S21 FE: a thin and light design
Like last year, the Galaxy S21 FE is equipped with a superb last-generation Amoled screen, in a slightly smaller size compared to the S20 FE, i.e. 6.4 inches. Larger than the S21 (6.2 inches) but noticeably smaller than the S21 + (6.7 inches), this model benefits from a Full HD + panel protected against scratches and drops by the latest version of Gorilla Glass, Victus . It is also refreshed to 120 Hz, for maximum display fluidity.
We recognize at first glance on this S21 FE the iconic design of the S21, with a rectangular photo block that blends into the case. With one difference all the same! This block now adopts the same material and color as the high-end plastic case. The style of the device, always waterproof, is no less elegant. This Galaxy S21 FE even has the luxury of being as thin and light as the S21 (7.9 mm thick only for 177 g)
Unlike the S20 FE of 2020, the S21 FE is only offered in 5G version, powered by the most powerful processor in the Android world, the Snapdragon 888 (while of course awaiting the arrival of its successor in a few weeks) . Once again, Samsung is swapping its homemade Exynos for Qualcomm’s chip, which is both more powerful and more energy efficient. Autonomy should be improved, especially since the device has a 4500 mAh battery, 500 mAh more than the S21. Who will complain? With a 25 W fast wired charge, Samsung even promises a 50% recovery in 30 minutes, but this will require obtaining the appropriate charger … sold separately!
Galaxy S21 FE: a price that should drop quickly
In photo finally, Samsung plays the card of versatility with a triple module which combines the main lens (12 Mpx), an ultra wide-angle (12 Mpix) and a telephoto lens (8 Mpx) for a 3X optical zoom and a 30X hybrid zoom. selfie enthusiasts will have a 32 Mpx sensor on the front.
The Galaxy S21 FE can already be purchased in a 6/128 GB version at a price of 759 euros and in an 8/256 GB version at a price of 829 euros, with Galaxy Buds 2 headphones free for any order before January 8 2022. Deliveries should begin later this month.
It remains to be seen now whether this Galaxy S21 FE will experience the same success as its predecessor. For several weeks now, the Galaxy S21 and S21 + have not cost as much as when they were launched. With its late release, the S21 FE therefore loses one of its main arguments. One can imagine, however, that it will be the subject of solid promotions during the sales. Fnac, Boulanger or Amazon are already applying reductions of 100 euros on the device.
