More than ever, the Mostra confirms its reputation as “Hollywood-on-the-lagoon” with an impressive contingent of stars.

The selfie hunters are back on the Lido Last night they were waiting for Catherine Deneuve, who came to receive a Golden Lion for her entire career.

But the two stars of the evening were of course Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig, the heroes of White Noisethe opening film of this 79th Mostra. White Noise plunges two professors into the heart of an ecological disaster, the explosion of a train stuffed with toxic substances.

In his 12th film, Noah Baumbach explores the consequences of the disaster, which of course recalls the Covid epidemic: fatigue, depression, anxiety and paranoia, all gradually leading to the dereliction of the couple.

The family is a nightmare, and the American dream a complete decoy, that’s what he tells us.

Funny choice (some will say) for an opening film, the others will appreciate the virtuosity of the maestro who juggles between horror film and family chronicle, fantasy and realism, to offer us this fierce comedy about the end of the world.
