Under the collaboration with Tim Hortons franchise owners, the Pritchard family and Mike and Paula Grail, locations in Chatham, Wallaceburg and Dresden raised $54,618 for the foundation, a release said.

More than 150 community volunteers helped bake and decorate more than 29,000 cookies at the Chatham Armory kitchen.

The Children’s Treatment Center of Chatham-Kent, which serves thousands of kids of all ages each year through various programs and services, continues to benefit from the funds raised through this annual campaign.

“These contributions make a significant impact on the lives of children in our community with physical, developmental, or communication challenges,” the foundation said.

The Smile Cookie campaign began in 1996, originally to support the Hamilton Children’s Hospital.

Over the years, it has grown into a major community engagement and fundraising initiative for Tim Hortons, through the co-operation of local businesses and customer support.

Last year’s campaign raised more than $19.7 million in one week for charity nationally.
