Violent protests broke out in Dublin on Thursday after five people, including three children, were injured in a knife attack in the city.

A five-year-old girl and a woman in her 30s are being treated in hospital with serious injuries.

During Thursday evening, clashes arose between police with riot shields and rioters, reports say Sky news.
Fireworks and flares have been fired at the police, while at least one police car and two double-deckers have been set on fire.

According to the Sky News broadcaster, shops had also been looted.

A Garda riot squad was also deployed to control the disorder.

The knife attack

A person has been arrested on suspicion of the knife attack that took place outside a primary school. At a press conference earlier today, Superintendent Liam Geraghty said the attack appeared to be an “isolated attack”.

The police have also said that they are not treating it as a terrorist attack.
