Two dead after Russian attack on church in Zaporizhzhya

Russia has carried out a new attack on Zaporizhzhya, Ukrainian media reports. Ukrainian Pravda writes that at least two people have died and several have been injured after Russian robots struck the city.

The air raid warning sounded in the city between 19.40 and 20.25, according to the newspaper. Shortly afterwards, Yuri Malashko, the Ukrainian governor of Zaporizhzhya, announced that a Russian robot had struck.

Andriy Jermak, chief of staff in the Office of the President of Ukraine, states that the first reports indicate that the robot that struck the city was a short-range robot of the Iskander model.

Church and house damaged

During the evening, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the attack on X (formerly Twitter).

“Today, Russian terrorists have struck again. An ordinary building was hit, a church and a house were damaged. Right now it is known that there are dead… there are injured. My condolences to the families and friends who have lost their loved ones,” he writes on social media.

In a statement, he also reiterates the demand for more anti-aircraft systems and robots from the West.

“Every day, every week, we work for our air defense to have more air defense systems and robots. Tomorrow I will continue that work and do my best to provide more protection in the air,” he writes.
