Trafikverket: Two kilometers of double track in Nyköping can be scrapped as Ostlänken will become cheaper

When the government last autumn stopped the plans for new trunk lines for high-rise lines, the Swedish Transport Administration was at the same time tasked with reviewing how money can be saved on the construction of the Ostlänken between Järna and Linköping.

The investigation is now complete.

Plan separation can be abolished

Among the proposals is to lay the secondary track that will connect Nyköping’s travel center with Skavsta at the same level as the main track instead of level signs. 2.5 kilometers of double track would therefore not be needed, according to the investigation.

This can be done when the amount of trains that are expected to operate the Ostlänken is reduced because the other planned high-speed lines that would connect from the Ostlänken are no longer to be built.

Delays the project

Among the possible savings are also changed station solutions in Norrköping and Linköping.

The measures would affect the timetable by 1-2 years, according to the investigation. How the start of traffic can be affected will be investigated this autumn. The plan so far has been for the entire route to be completed by 2035.
