Thomas Bangalter: after Daft Punk, a solo comeback

Thomas Bangalter after Daft Punk a solo comeback

DAFT PUNK. French producer and half of the helmeted duo Daft Punk, Thomas Bangalter, announces the release of his first project in the spring of 2023.

[Mis à jour le 25 janvier 2023 à 11h47] One of the most anticipated projects of the year: two years after the separation of the emblematic duo daft-punk, the French producer Thomas Bangalter, half of the helmeted band, announces the release of a solo album to be released on April 7th. The project, called Mythologies, will have 23 titles, reports the magazine Tsugioriginally created for the choreographer Angelin Preljocaj, for the ballet of the same name, performed by the Orchester national Bordeaux Aquitaine, conducted by Romain Dumas.

Mythologies is the first opus composed by Thomas Bangalter for an orchestra, through which the co-founder of Daft Punk reinvents his relationship to composition”, can we read in a tweet from Warner Classics, announcing the project, initiated at the summer 2021.

“Angelin Preljocaj, who had already worked with Daft Punk on electro music, offered Thomas Bangalter this time to compose ballet music for him. This one wanted to change register, he really wanted to try to pass to something else, to rub shoulders with symphonic orchestration”, explained at the time Olivier Lombardie, general administrator of the Opéra national de Bordeaux, interviewed by AFP.

A break with Daft Punk

In 2021, the separation of the legendary helmeted duo Daft Punk had the effect of a bomb and took everyone by surprise. And Thomas Bangalter’s project seems to have little to do with the music he offered with his friend Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. And for good reason, it is, in the words of Olivier Olivier Lombardie, general administrator of the Opéra national de Bordeaux, interviewed by AFP in the summer of 2021 of “a work for orchestra, without electronics.” “This one wanted to change register, he really wanted to try to move on, to rub shoulders with symphonic orchestration”, he adds.
