The Walking Dead finally reveals why Maggie needs Negans help

When the spin-off The Walking Dead: Dead City was announced, the question marks were big: why should Maggie and Negan team up? As Screenrant reports, the reason was finally confirmed at the TCA Press Tour 2023.

One Kidnapping of her son Hershel results in Maggie asking her husband’s killer for help.

Maggie and Negan go to New York and The Walking Dead run out of ideas

The parent series The Walking Dead ended with season 11 in autumn 2022. One Storyline in the third and penultimate episode was the kidnapping of Maggie’s son Hershel. He was bagged along with other children by Commonwealth soldiers and locked away in a secret location.

So one of the big themes at the end of Season 11 was that Maggie’s search for Hershel and by Rosita after her daughter Coco. Also Maggie’s deep hatred towards Negan as well Negan’s remorse and guilt were dealt with extensively and satisfactorily in the final.

Although the explosive and sad relationship between Maggie and Negan has already been nuanced to the end, the screenwriters pick it up again. So that they have a drifty reason for Maggie’s behavior, they construct another kidnapping.

Aside from The Walking Dead copying itself here in a number of ways, Maggie’s decision makes perfect sense. She turns to Negan for help as she doesn’t know anyone else whose life is so unworthy to her, who is at the same time a dangerous and unpredictable survivor and who owes her so much.

The two end up in Manhattan, cut off from the mainland since the zombie apocalypse, on their search for Hershel. the six episodes of the spin-off The Walking Dead: Dead City was originally announced for spring 2023, but now for the June 2023 planned.

If Dead City doesn’t appeal to you, then there are three other The Walking Dead series this year that might suit your tastes better.
