Säpo will take over the investigation of the knife attack in Visby during Almedalen Week. The act is classified as a terrorist crime.

The 32-year-old man who has been detained has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He is now suspected of terrorist crimes through murder, as well as of preparation for terrorist crimes through preparation for murder, the Public Prosecutor’s Office writes in a press release.

– There is currently no further suspect in the case, says Gabriel Wernstedt, press secretary at Säpo, to TT.

It was on Wednesday last week that the psychiatric coordinator Ing-Marie Wieselgren was stabbed to death by the 32-year-old man. He has confessed to the crime and is in custody on probable cause on suspicion of the murder of Wieselgren.

The Security Police are now conducting the preliminary investigation under the leadership of prosecutors at the National Unit for Security Cases.

The Security Police has and continues to work closely with the Police Authority.

District Attorney Henrik Olin, the head of the preliminary investigation, has declined to comment further.
