The trial about Tove continues: “Could be seriously interesting”

On Monday, the trial began against the two women, 20 and 18 years old, who are suspected of having murdered 21-year-old Tove in Vetlanda last fall. Today, the trial continues, with questioning of the two accused women. – Then it can be seriously interesting, says Leif GW Persson. During the first two days of the trial, the prosecutor presented his case and interviews were held with the defendants’ plaintiffs. During the first interrogations, the 20-year-old’s lawyer questioned the prosecutor’s thesis that Tove died of strangulation. According to the defense, the death may have occurred when Tove may have suffered a concussion after a fall in the 20-year-old’s apartment and then died of her own vomit. But according to the prosecutor, the coroner has established that there were no stomach contents in the lungs and that the result therefore strongly suggests that Tove died of strangulation. – Today, both defendants will give their version of what happened, so then it can get really interesting, says Leif GW Persson, who is at the trial in Eksjö District Court. There is a certain opposition between them, they blame each other, the criminologist continues. “Lacks a legal basis” For the prosecutor, it is therefore incumbent on the prosecutor to firstly demonstrate that the cause of death is due to strangulation – and secondly to be able to prove that the 18-year-old is complicit in order for the prosecution to stand. But Persson believes that the prosecutor may have difficulty proving that. – I think it lacks a legal basis. Her participation does not meet the requirements for aiding and abetting murder, so I find it very difficult to see her being convicted. In the case of the 20-year-old, it will be about the forensic examination. The 18-year-old’s wish During the day, it remains to be seen how the two women stand up to the accusations in questioning. According to the 18-year-old, who has always denied the murder charges, her actions even after the murder took place under pressure from the 20-year-old. She has stated that she felt compelled to go along and drive to the forest area where the body was left and then burned. And now the 18-year-old has asked to be heard separately from the 20-year-old. – The 18-year-old feels quite threatened by the 20-year-old, so partly she wants the doors closed and partly she does not want the 20-year-old to be present when she is questioned, and of course the 20-year-old’s lawyer has objected to that. So we’ll see how it turns out, but it probably won’t be like that, says Persson.
