The SVT colleagues saw Björn Ferry’s controversial proposal during the Biathlon World Cup – clear criticism: “It’s too boring”

Björn Ferry wants to make a real change in biathlon.
Now his controversial proposal is being seen during this year’s WC.
– It is going backwards in development, says SVT colleague Helena Ekholm.

This year’s Biathlon World Cup has been yet another demonstration of power by the Norwegian national team on the men’s side. They have dominated the entire World Cup season and now won medals in all races where both the sprint and the pursuit start offered all-Norwegian podiums.

Ferry’s proposal

At the same time, the French women’s national team is involved Julia Simon at the top dominated on the women’s side. Now the voice is being raised to make the sport more equal and fair.

The SVT expert Bjorn Ferry wants to fundamentally change biathlon with a controversial proposal that provokes strong reactions. Because according to him, there is a simple way to level the odds so that all nations can compete on equal terms.
– As it has become now, it is an arms race where enormous resources are spent on having the best skis. Which means that the smaller nations, with fewer resources, are beaten in advance, he tells the television channel.

The colleagues saw

Ferry wants, simply put, to remove the walta teams altogether.
– That can be completely eliminated if you draw skis instead and level the playing field.

But the SVT expert colleagues do not agree and now saw Ferry’s radical proposal.
– I buy his argument outright, while a small part of me feels that it feels a bit boring. It is going backwards in development, says the TV expert Helena Ekholm in SVT’s WC magazine.
– Maybe I just need to get used to the idea.

The former biathletes Fredrik Lindström and Elisabeth Högberg don’t agree either.
– I think there has been a charm in finding the perfect skis, Work with the team and that has always been part of the sport, says Lindström to the TV channel.
– Ferry’s proposal is boring. It’s a bit of a charm to get to feel different pairs of skis to see which ones are the best. Getting a pair of skis at the start is not as fun, says Högberg.
