Common Housewife Tricks Can Ruin Your Tulips: “Kills”

Common Housewife Tricks Can Ruin Your Tulips Kills

Often the tulips start to look sad after only a few days in the vase. To delay the inevitable wilting, one can try some of the housewives’ tricks that abound on the internet – but do the tricks really work?

Here are the tulip myths you absolutely must not try.

The common mistake destroys the tulips – this is how you avoid the bouquet starting to fade

The tulips must be cut

News24 have previously written about the best tricks for the tulips to feel good.

There it emerged, for example, that one should always cut one’s tulips, and preferably place the flowers in cold and fresh water.

It is also not bad to place the bouquet in the fridge overnight.

Water the flowers with… soda?

But what to do if you follow all the good advice, but still have a bunch of tired tulips at home?

When the actual tricks no longer work, many people try less scientifically tested methods, in other words classic housewife tricks.

Home & Rent have listed some of the tips that are actually just myths:

One of these tips recommends a few drops of soda in the water that the tulips are in. The rationale is that the sugar will nourish the flowers, which in and of itself is true, but it also increases bacterial growth.

If you have soda in the vase, the flowers will therefore feel significantly worse than they would have done with just water.

Therefore, you should NEVER let your palette leaves bloom

A splash of coffee in the water

The second myth says that coffee makes the tulips both stretch and last longer.

But unfortunately, the caffeine kick is only pleasant for humans. The coffee does not have a positive effect on the flowers and the water also turns brown and dirty.

Therefore, you should never throw flowers in the food waste

But a little soup then?

The third household myth is that alcohol slows down the ripening of cut flowers, but this is really not true.

If the flowers get pure alcohol, their life will instead be shorter. Alcohol kills flowers.
