Sparre high school in Täby is forced to close down its operations.

Unauthorized teachers, lack of teaching and poor student health are some of the reasons for the decision made by the School Inspectorate.

– It’s actually the sickest thing I’ve been part of, says a student about his time at the school.

Serious and extensive deficiencies mean that Sparre gymnasium in Täby is forced to close down its operations.

– It is unusual and the deficiencies are serious, explains Fredrika Brickman, head of unit at the School Inspectorate in Stockholm, who is now revoking the school’s permit.

The decision is motivated, among other things, by the fact that the students consistently received too little teaching time, that several teachers were unauthorized and that courses were entered at the same times in the schedules.

14 students have not been able to take their high school diploma as they have not received one of their compulsory courses.

Fredrika Brickman also points to shortcomings in student health and grading.

– The students have not received the education they are entitled to, she says.

Student: “Useless”

The students who are in their last year of high school will be allowed to finish their education, while the other years will be allowed to apply for new schools.

A student who wishes to remain anonymous describes his time at the school as “disastrous”.

– It’s actually the sickest thing I’ve been part of. How they communicate, how they teach and how the whole school is structured, it’s useless.

Are you surprised that the school is being forced to close now?

– No, I thought it would happen much earlier.

Previously reported for racism

Sparre gymnasium has been in bad weather before.

In February of last year, the high school was reported for racism in connection with an assignment on an economics exam that was displayed with a photo of IS leader Abu Waheeb.

– That looks like people who are part of a terrorist organization, which the teacher apparently links to Kurds. It’s sickeningly outrageous and racist, said one student at the time.

The school principal now has three weeks to appeal the School Inspectorate’s decision. If nothing happens, the school will close on 1 July 2024.

Aftonbladet has applied for Sparre gymnasium.
