The sudden turn of the Frölunda profile – strikes back against the sports director’s own actions: “It has been blown up”

Frölunda said that the career may be over.
Now Mats Rosseli Olsen strikes back.
– This has been blown up, he says.

Mats Rosseli Olsen is one of the SHL’s most experienced players, and he has over 700 games and 13 seasons in Frölunda, where he has become somewhat of a cult player. Over the years in the Gothenburg club, there have been two SM golds, in 2016 and 2019, as well as four CHL titles. But this week there was worrying information about him.

Now striking back

Last spring, in the quarter-finals against rival Färjestad, the Norwegian suffered a concussion, which kept him out of the remainder of the playoffs. Rosseli Olsen is still suffering from the suites and it is unclear when he can be back. This week, Frölunda’s sporting director Fredrik Sjöström announced that his career may be over.

– We don’t want to think like that. And I don’t think that “Rosse” himself wants to think that either. We just have to give it time – and I think everyone hopes that it will be a good amount of time. But when it will be is difficult to put a timeline on, he told GP.

Rosseli Olsen immediately received massive support from Frölunda’s supporters, but now comes the turn. According to Rosseli Olsen, his career is not in danger, and he is determined to come back.

– This has been blown up. This is not a career-threatening injury, he says to Norwegian TV2.

Revealing the plan

However, it is difficult to put a timeline on when he can be back. However, the goal is to show up for training with the rest of the team in August.

– I would like to be back tomorrow. But it is very uncertain how long it might take. So not knowing when you will come back is probably the worst, he says.

Rosseli Olsen is now back home in Norway for rehabilitation, and he is seeing flashes of light.

– It’s going slowly. But if you look at it positively, it’s better now than it was the first month, says Rosseli Olsen.
