The Olympics have returned to SVT again.
But now viewer favorite Jacob Hård can miss the party – because of a crucial rule.
– The Olympic announcement is a carrot and something that attracts, says the commentator to SportExpressen.

On Monday came the great news that the Olympic broadcasts are returning to SVT again. Starting with the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, the Swedish people will get to see the world’s best athletes compete for the Olympic medals on SVT’s channels.

Hard can miss

One who cheered loudly at the news was the legendary commentator and viewer favorite Jacob Hard. He is very pleased that the Olympics are returning “home” to SVT again.

But now comes the most unexpected news that the popular TV profile may miss the entire return. He recently turned 68 and is in his last year as an employee of Sveriges Television.

“Olympic a carrot”

The TV channel has a strict age policy for its employees who are not allowed to continue past retirement age. But there is a way to get around the rule, which Hård is now hoping for.
– I have exactly one year left in which I can be employed at SVT. That year I drove, of course, but since then we haven’t reasoned any further than that. It is possible to continue. You can work without being employed, some others have done that too, says the SVT commentator to SportExpressen.

When the time comes for the Winter Olympics in 2026, Jacob Hård will be 71 years old. He is still clear that he would like to stay until then to get the chance to work with the Olympics again.
– The Olympic announcement is a carrot and something that entices to continue for a few more years to experience an Olympics on site again, of course it is, he says to the evening newspaper.

Hård and SVT have not yet started talking very concretely about the future. But the 69th birthday is approaching for the long-time commentator and soon a decision must be made whether there will be a continuation or not.
– The discussions about my future have not been concrete yet, but they must be before I fall for that line that I cannot be employed anymore. It’s also in the middle of a ski season, so we have to agree on how it should look there. So in good time before next winter, we must have that discussion, says the 68-year-old in the interview.
