Hill was born in Manchester in 1944. His big breakthrough as an actor was in the role of Yosser Hughes in the British drama series “Boys from the Blackstuff” from 1982.
He acted in several award-winning films. Among other things, he played Captain Edward Smith in “Titanic” and did the role of King Théoden in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy.
He is the only actor who appeared in two films that won eleven Oscars each – “Titantic” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”.
