The two heads of state warmly shook hands on Saturday at the departure of the Senegalese president Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who had been welcomed the day before with honors by his counterpart Mamadi Doumbouya.

At the end of a visit “ work and friendship », the two presidents congratulated each other “ fruitful fraternal conversations which took place » and both put “ a particular emphasis on the promotion of Pan-Africanism and sub-regional integration. »

A few days earlier, Bassirou Diomaye Faye visited his Cape Verde counterpart, José Maria Neves. These meetings are the continuation of the long regional tour which began with neighboring countries such as Mauritania,Guinea-Bissau and the Gambia quickly after his inauguration before continuing Ghana and Nigeria last week after going to Ivory Coast in early May.

These destinations are a diplomatic break with his predecessors, in particular because outgoing President Macky Sall was welcomed at the Élysée by the French head of state at the time, Nicolas Sarkozy, three weeks after his election in 2012.
