The police in the eastern region are issuing a warning to the public ahead of Halloween.

Those who are going to dress up are asked not to show themselves with weapons-like objects.

– You need to think about this more now than you needed to before. We take all alarms seriously, says Johnny Gustavsson, police spokesperson in Region East.

“Remember not to appear in public with weapon-like objects. Violent incidents have occurred where children have been perpetrators,” the police write on their website.

The police believe that people are more alert to raise the alarm to prevent new acts of violence. The alarms are taken seriously and, according to the police, can be “downright dangerous for the person dressing up”.

Police spokesperson Johnny Gustavsson believes that they have already received calls around Halloween about people dressed up in previous years.

– The pendulum has swung, nowadays even young children are perpetrators of serious violent crimes. You have to think a little more in these times than you had to do before, says Gustavsson.

He believes that the police always take all alarms seriously and tells about an incident that happened as recently as Wednesday.

– It was a really boyish stag party yesterday, they caught the groom and taped him up and took him away. Citizens who saw this thought it was a kidnapping. We got control of the car fairly quickly, but by then we had over ten patrols involved and a helicopter was on the way, says Gustavsson.

According to the police, no one was injured in connection with the incident, but all those involved received a serious debriefing on the inappropriateness of this.
