The new smash hit for Sweden – Hanna Öberg does as a partner and wins the World Cup premiere after a giant race

Martin Ponsiluoma took home the victory in the men’s biathlon premiere yesterday.
And on Wednesday it was also a success on the women’s side.

After a great race, Hanna Öberg – just like her partner – was able to drive home the victory for Sweden.

After Martin Ponsiluomas resounding success during yesterday – where the Swede secured his first World Cup victory in his career – it was time for the ladies to step into the premiere week in Kontiolahti. A 15 kilometer long distance competition was on the schedule for the biathletes and on the starting line there were several Swedish women – not least Hannah and Elvira Öberg.

Courageous for Elvira Öberg

The early favorite Elvira Öberg started the competition well, and looked like she could start the season with a victory. But a weak shooting put an end to Öberg, and the absolute top positions became too tough after a total of three missed shots in the shooting.

Instead, it was older sister Hanna Öberg who ended up in focus. Hanna showed masterful pace on the shooting range and after the third shoot there was a good chance of a victory. Just one that partner Martin Ponsiluoma took yesterday.

When Hanna Öberg then came in for the fourth and last shot, she shot for victory – and she would score four out of five possible shots, which set the stage for a real shock at the final stage.

Success for Hanna Öberg

And of course there would be victory. Hanna Öberg finished with a margin of victory of over 30 seconds ahead of the Norwegian Ingrid Landmark Dental violence and started the season in the very best way.
